Evaluation 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

This scene conveys a horror film as it shows a scary figure dead on the floor. This is a stereotypical scene in a horror film. During this scene it shows the character Charlotte spotting Kieran, the creepy figure alive then dead then alive again. This makes the audience question why he was dead but now alive again.

Kieran, the creepy figure staring up at Charlotte makes the audience fear for the safety of Charlotte and makes them question shall happen next. This scene shows the horror genre being introduced to the audience. It also shows the audience one of the locations. The use of the trees and damp dark floor makes it look mysterious and creepy.

This scene is when Charlotte is first introduced to the audience. It helps the audience to learn that she is a young girl moving into a new house with her boyfriend. With the use of diegetic sound we learn who she is, who she is going to live with and the audience feel there is a lot to learn about this character as she is straight away introduced to them.
This screenshot of the scene shows us the character, Charlottes costume. Charlotte is wearing an outfit that is very casual and would usually
be worn for a causal day with no importance. This is more realistic to the audience as she is moving into a new house so she would not want to get her clothing dirty and she would want to be comfortable.
In this scene it conveys a horror film as instead of staying inside the young girl goes outside to look for the creepy figure. The audience then realises this shall be a mistake as she has gone searching for someone who could potentially hurt her.

The titles make the horror film effective because it is in big bold writing and helps the audience to see who stars in the film and who was part of the production team.

By zooming in on Kieran, the creepy figure it makes the audience more scared but also helps the audience to begin to see what he looks like. This conveys a horror film as the audience is now introduced to the antagonist.

The antagonist following Charlotte down the pathway whilst her being unaware conveys a horror film as the audience is now worried for Charlotte but also wants to know what shall happen next so they continue to watch in hope she is safe but also that she realises he is behind her.

The use of big bold writing and the black screen behind it makes it creepy but stand out and then the audience will want to watch more as they have learnt it is a horror film and has conventions of  a horror film so they know it will be scary.
