Evaluation 8

What targets will you set yourself for G324 next year- when you will make a trailer?

Next year for our media course we shall be making a trailer for a film. This shall involve more make up, people, special effects etc. This is because we have to involve scenes from throughout the film so that the audience will be interested in watching the film. Special effects and sound shall play a huge factor in it because it needs to be interesting quick and attract as many people as possible. Because of this I want to set myself high targets so I push myself to achieve as high grade as I can. I feel I have many targets for G324. These include, making sure when I film the trailer that I use more camera shots and special effects as our G321 was very simple. I also feel for the preliminary task I will add more information to each post to make it more interesting and therefore when we go to film we shall have more background knowledge so that we can produce a better film/trailer next time. IN G324 I want to be able to work as a team better to come together with all of our ideas to make a high quality trailer. During our trailer it shall involve different settings, people, make up , special effects, sound- either diegetic, non diegetic or both and much more! We shall need to focus on camera angles a lot because we need the audience to understand throughout the trailer.

In our 2 minute film the group and I struggled to make sure there were dates when we were all able to meet to film which caused problems. We also then lost footage off of one of the members from the groups phone. This set us back by a day because we had spent all day filming and lost most of it. Next time I would make sure every time we film a part we send it to each other so it is backed up and therefore we wouldn't lose anything. Losing our footage was disappointing at the time but it was a lesson well learnt and it has helped us to learn how we will film next year.

Next year we shall make days free when we can film and leave an extra few available so that if for a reason the original days are then unavailable we have others as an option. We also need to make sure we film the whole film the correct way as in G321 some of our filming was horizontal and others were landscape. This was a problem because it now doesn't flow well. Therefore next time we should film everything from either just one angle or do both angles for each part so that we can then decide afterwards if it is landscape or horizontal. Next time our group will film everything more than once so that we can over lap parts and crop parts but they still flow well. By having them from different angles we will be able to see what part is best.

Evaluation 7

Looking back at your preliminary task( the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

In the preliminary task to the final product I learnt lots of new information. I learnt about camera angles and how they are effective, I never knew before this task how much preparation had to go into making a 2 minute film let alone an hour or 2. I learnt that due to the angles we can learn a lot of information without needing speech, for example who lacks or has the power in a scene through a high or low angle shot and how they are feeling, which would be seen through a close up. I have also learnt that depending on characters in a clip then depends on who watches it. I learnt this because in our clip a young couple moved into a new house and therefore it attracts a young audience to watch it because they can relate to it. By learning about stereotypes and target audiences in other films it helped me to decide the genre and what aged people should star in our film because it was important we got the target audience correct.

I have also learnt that having a camera horizontally or landscape can make a huge difference and when filming you should film everything from different angles and more than once. This is because when it came to editing we didn't have enough to crop and over lap and then we had to improvise with what we had which was challenging.

I also learnt about how important titles are throughout the first 2 minutes of the film. This is because if they flow throughout it they are noticed and it makes it effective because we learn about the characters and who helped to make the whole production possible. Whereas, if they were all at the end people are less likely to watch it, whether its on a dvd or online etc. they will just turn off the end because they have watched the whole film now so lose an interest. I learnt this because originally when editing we were going to have the majority of the titles at the end but it didn't look as good whereas when we changed it to have titles throughout it made the characters and production team have more of an importance and it also made it more scary because people would want to watch the titles but then quickly focus back on what would happen to the character Charlotte.

Evaluation 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Throughout the making of G321 (the opening two minutes to a film) we used an iPhone 6 and a tripod to create it. The iPhone 6 films 1080p HD video, therefore we felt this was a great idea to use to film with because it has a high definition camera and would have been better quality to use this than the cameras the group has.

After filming our opening two minutes we then had to edit it. To do this we used Adobe Premiere Elements 10 , this is a software that includes many useful features to edit a film. It helped us to make it look more like a horror film through the use of transition effects and we were then able to add sound on top of it. However this software was very new to us as none of us had used it before so as we edited we learnt more about it. I also learnt how to crop scenes to make them flow but also so that it can change angles of the camera without cutting. This helped us because in a horror film the flow can make it more creepy due to the fact the audience doesn't expect it. The software was great to edit with but when we went to re-watch it to check the alterations were correct it continuously froze so we didn't know if this was due to the editing or the software until a while after.

We then used YouTube to upload our preliminary task, our story board and our film. We have all used YouTube a lot to watch videos but we haven't had our own channel or uploaded films before so this was a new process for us to learn about. This took us time to understand and work out how to do, we also had to change the film we had uploaded which we had to work out how to delete the other one and upload a new one.

Evaluation 5

Evaluation 5- How did you attract/ address your audience?

Our film is a horror film based on a young couple. Stereotypically teenagers go to watch horror films because they enjoy the thrill and therefore we attracted our audience by adding teenagers in it because they can then relate to them.

The audience are most likely to enjoy the sound in our film as it demonstrates that it is a horror film. Our film also holds other factors that show it is a horror film such as the title of the film, we made the title big and bold because we felt it would attract the correct target audience.

Our couple were moving into a new house, this is a big stage of young peoples lives. They are most likely moving out of their parents house for the first time and this makes it scary and exciting. By addressing this it has made people want to watch it because they are also moving into a new house and therefore are looking for reassurance. However they may also enjoy it because they can overcome fears of moving into a new house by believing they will be fine as it is only a horror film. However, people who have recently or previously moved into a new house may have loved or hated it and want to remember it and think about how it was for so they watch our horror film to remind them of their time of moving into a new house.

Evaluation 4

Evaluation 4-  who would be the audience for your media product?

No one under the age of 15 should attend a film at the cinema that is rated a 15 or be able to buy a 15 rated film.

Image result for 15 age

Our film is based on a young couple moving into a new house. Therefore we believe the audience for our film would be between 15-27. However we also feel other age groups would be interested in this film but the age chosen to rate this film is correct. Teenagers are experiencing new feeling so therefore they would enjoy the suspense and shock. Horror films are stereotypically 15-27 and mainly men as they enjoy the thrill.
Although we thought about age for our target audience we also thought about the gender of who would prefer our film.  Stereotypically men are more likely to enjoy horror films, this is because they enjoy the use of violence, gore and the fear of what may be. We know this because they are more commonly bought by men and so are violent games.
However girls also enjoy horror films, stereotypically they enjoy the suspense and fear. Lots of couples go to see horror films as they enjoy watching each other fear the unknown but also know they shall not be harmed. Horror films normally have a group of friends in them which makes them targeted at friends that are teenagers because they can relate to them and then fear for them more because they imagine themselves in that position.

15 rated films include:
Drugs
Sex
Violence
Threat
Inappropriate language
Imitable behaviour

The reason we rated the film a 15 is because it shall involve violence as the film continues which is legally rated a 15.

The definition to a 15 rated film that includes violence is...

"Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but the depiction of sexual violence must be discreet and justified by context."

Evaluation 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

This is our film production name, we chose this because we felt it was better than our last one as it wasn't too bright but we were able to keep the name " A GOLDEN CASTLE FILM".  The one before that we chose was inappropriate for a horror film, however we felt this was more appropriate.

The production company all come together to make a film successful, this includes filming, editing, the budgeting, scheduling, scripting, organising the actors/actresses. organising the staff involved, the distribution of the film and marketing.

If we were to distribute this film ourselves we would choose to go with selling it to Netflix. This is because we have such a small budget originally and we would want to get more money than we spent on the film and therefore if Netflix bought it we would make more money than trying to put it through the cinema. This is because we aren't well known and haven't made previous successful films or any at all. The money we would receive would come from Netflix as they would buy our film for a certain amount and then whether it is over the budget then determines whether or not we take the offer. Otherwise we would then go to a different film studio and offer it for a certain price. We want to be able to make a big enough profit to be able to get twice our budget.

We have many titles throughout our film, these include the production teams names. Although we all helped to make the production successful, we also had our own parts, this including Ellis Cole and Chloe Tullett writing the script and scene information. Charlotte Benjamin and Kieran Amos featuring in the film and myself editing it after the filming was finished.
